Richard and Nick have known each other for over twenty five years and have been performing professionally together since they graduated from music college.
Richard began playing the piano at the age of six followed by drums and percussion when he was nine. Whilst he was studying music he played in the Gravesham Youth Music Orchestra and the Kent County Wind Orchestra until he was eighteen. He then went on to study music at Trinity College of Music London graduating with an honours degree and two music diplomas. Since then Richard has divided his time between performing professionally and teaching. As well as playing in the Night and Day Jazz Duo Richard also performs with orchestras, brass bands, show bands and function bands. He also composes and arranges music.
Nick started to learn the bassoon when he was eleven years old and then went on to learn the piano and saxophone. As a child he played in the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra and then the Kent County Youth Orchestra. He studied music at Trinity College of Music London graduating with an honours degree and a post graduate diploma. Since graduating Nick has performed in a wide range of ensembles including orchestras, show bands and wind ensembles. He has considerable experience as a musical director and is in much demand. He also maintains a successful teaching practice both in schools and from his own studio.
